Does my skin tone offend you?

Well, well, well...

Look who's made it out to this blog post...Kidding. Anyways, I've got some things to get off my chest about this topic of does my skin tone offend you or does it take away from your reading experience?

I mean, of course, I want your feedback as well with this all but tell me... Should authors always ONLY write one particular skin tone? And I'm reaching out more towards the IR(Interracial Romance) and OMBW(Other Men of whatever ethnic background and black women) authors.

I mean at the end of the day, are they not all black? Whether they are dark skinned or of lighter skin? Or even BI-or-Multiracial? I say this because as an author myself, we write the foundation of a black woman and any other race male. They have children and those children are mixed, aren't they? Well, who's going to write their story? Are they not allowed to have a story as well?

Why must authors be limited or rather bullied to write one skin tone. Listen, if the character comes to me and she's of lighter skin tone then so be it. She's still a beautiful, black woman. I can't take that away from her.

Now, I know, I know.. WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE TIMES THAT A DARK-SKINNED WOMAN WAS PUT ON THE BACK BURNER?

I am in NO WAY saying that I want one over the other. All I'm saying is for this kind of story or rather issue to stop happening, we have to embrace all skin tones. In a single family, there can be women of different skin tones ( I know this because that's my family) but it doesn't change beauty. It doesn't mean one is much more beautiful or deserving over the other. That's the best thing about being an INDIVIDUAL, being YOU... You will always get what's meant for you.

Especially when it comes to romance and what I write. Every character of every skin tone gets HER man and he doesn't ever look at her differently. It doesn't matter whether she's tall, short, skinny, BBW, Curvy, etc. None of that will ever matter in HIS eyes because he loves that WOMAN. Just as much as she loves herself.

Let me not get sidetracked... Anyways, Also remember that just because she's a black woman it doesn't make her limited to what she wants to try out. What she deems sexy for her or impressive to her. For me, my men will always have DARK ELEMENTS surrounding them and they will always love their women HARD AS FUCK. That's something for another day. LOL

I'll stop there since this is my first blog and I want to keep you here and not scare you away...

Comment and let me know your thoughts on this.

P.S. You can start a topic in the forum section and maybe that'll help me with my next blog post.

Toodles.

I love this topic!! I think I’ve read so many books where the woman didn’t look like me, that when I found them that’s all I wanted to read. I feel like in the past few years, I’ve really started to be more open to women characters with lighter skin tones! I tend to now stick with authors that can give me versatility in skin tone than authors that have all of their female characters only have cafe au lait skin.
